Westhampton Beach Historical Society

The Historical Society is located at the Tuthill House Museum at 101 Mill Road in Westhampton Beach. The Museum grounds include the 1840 Tuthill House Museum, the circa 1735 Foster-Meeker Heritage Center, which is currently being restored, the circa 1845 Meeker Carriage House and Privy; and the circa 1750 Thurston Raynor Milk House. The Tuthill House Museum contains period rooms from the 1800's and houses a research library and an archive of historical artifacts. The Meeker carriage house contains the Society's farm tool collection, and the privy is an excellent example of early waste disposal methods! The cellar beneath the Raynor milk house was used to store ice, packed in salt hay or seaweed, to keep the cream cool. Every summer the Society features a topical historical exhibit at the Tuthill House Museum. Other yearly events include house tours, walking tours, yard sales, special exhibits, lectures, pot luck suppers and the annual cocktail reception for the opening of the summer exhibit.
