Long Island Wine Council

Dedicated to achieving recognition for Long Island as a premium wine producing region. Its role is to provide a coordinated effort for the promotion and development of the region’s wine industry. The Council was founded in 1989.

Long Island, New York’s “Bordeaux”, is the State’s newest and fastest growing wine region. About 100 miles (160 kilometres) east of New York City, the island separates into the North Fork and a South Fork known as The Hamptons, with the Atlantic Ocean on the south, Great Peconic Bay separating the two forks, and Long Island Sound to the north. These massive bodies of water moderate the temperature, creating a long growing season and ideal conditions for wine production.
